Installation of 2-layer parquet
Installation of 2-layer parquet
Installation of 2-layer parquet, gluing to concrete and floating installation
During and after installation, the instructions of the RYL 2013 Interior Works must be followed. Contact of hardwood (ash, oak) with water causes the wood to swell. Such swelling can cause warping, swelling, warping, edge cracking, etc. Sometimes the wooden floor recovers from moisture damage and sometimes it does not. The bottom layer of 2-layer parquet is moisture-resistant plywood, which significantly reduces the swelling of the wood.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Store the parquet in its unopened packaging on a horizontal and flat surface. During installation and afterwards, the temperature of the subfloor, floor material and room must be between 18-22°C. The relative humidity must remain between 35-60%. The humidity of the concrete or similar substrate must also be checked. When installing a wooden floor, there are uniform rules for all types of flooring, the relative humidity of the concrete must be at least (at a depth of 1-3 cm) 75%. If the concrete is wetter, you should consult a specialist and, if necessary, use a moisture barrier primer, such as Renove PU-200. In private houses, apartments and office premises with modern ventilation and heating systems, the air is very dry during dry times (during the winter heating period), the air humidity can even drop below 35%RH. Excessive dryness also has a detrimental effect on human health. Therefore, we recommend artificially increasing the air humidity in rooms during dry times, for example, using a humidifier. In summer cottages or rarely used rooms, it is advisable to use a heating system controlled by a humidity controller. If the humidity exceeds a critical limit, it will automatically turn on the heating system.
GLUING DOWN
Never use water-based adhesive when installing a floor!
WE RECOMMEND USING SOLVENT-BASED ADHESIVES FROM WELL-KNOWN MANUFACTURERS, for example: Renove Elastik 400, Renove Primer PU-200 for adhesion primer. Parquet installation begins with precise measurement and planning of the room. Use a marking line to make sure that the first row is indeed straight. This is very important for achieving the final result. The adhesive is applied to the floor with an adhesive comb suitable for the type of board. The adhesive is applied in 20-30cm increments - the adhesive strip must extend to join the boards together. The extent of the adhesive application depends on the type of adhesive (drying speed), the absorbency of the substrate, temperature and humidity. Start installation from the farthest wall edge, with the first board with the groove facing the wall. Place suitable spacers between the walls and other fixed obstacles and the floor. Leave an expansion joint around the entire perimeter of the floor (10-15mm). When installing in one piece, an expansion joint must also be left every 9m. It is recommended to remove the spacers the next day. Use a heavy hammer to knock the boards together. To avoid damaging the plank joint, use a hammer block or a 30cm long piece of board. The parquet joints are installed at a distance of 35cm from each other, offset from each other, to prevent the parquet from developing a weak spot later due to humidity. The end joints of the parquet must not be next to each other; the joints can be installed on the same line after every third row of parquet.
During installation, stand on the already installed floor. The flooring must be carefully pressed onto the adhesive pad to achieve a strong bond. If the subfloor is uneven, the adhesive strength may be significantly reduced. Install the last two boards at the same time. The last board must be sawn to the width of the room in advance. When gluing the floor directly to the subfloor, it is not recommended to glue the tongue-and-groove joint. After gluing, it is recommended to place a weight on the floor (for concrete subfloors) (e.g. sandbags or unused stacks of boards). If glue gets on the surface of the board, it must be removed immediately with a damp cloth to prevent the wood from discoloring.
After gluing the board, the floor must be allowed to dry for 1-7 days, depending on the glue used. Only then can the final sanding and finishing begin.
FLOATING INSTALLATION
The requirements of RYL Finishing 2013 apply to the parquet substrate. The parquet would be glued to the tongue-and-groove joint, using PVA glue. A 2.5-3mm underlayment is installed under the parquet, and on a concrete substrate the underlayment must have an overlay film.
Installation of designer parquet
When installing parquet with special dimensions and designs, the installation should start from the middle of the room so that the parquet remains evenly distributed along the wall. Generally, when installing more complex patterns, the parquet may need sanding to ensure that the wooden floor remains even. We recommend ordering sanding and finishing work from professionals in your field.
Floor protection
Immediately after installing the floor, the floor must be completely covered with construction cardboard. This is necessary to prevent the surface from getting dirty before finishing. The finished parquet is immediately ready for use and does not require covering.
After installation, the homeowner must:
Avoid sudden fluctuations in the room climate. Keep the room temperature constantly at 20-22º and the relative humidity at 40-60%. We recommend using a humidifier during the heating season. Avoid unnecessary sources of moisture in the summer months. The temperature of the heated hardwood floor surface must not exceed 27º C on the surface of the wood. The warranty for installed wooden floors is valid if the maintenance and use instructions for the wooden floor have been followed: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear of the surface finish and defects caused by incorrect maintenance and installation. The relative humidity of the room must remain between 40-60%. Use humidifiers to increase the humidity. The room temperature must be between 18-24°C In a room with underfloor heating, the surface temperature of the wooden parquet must not exceed 27°C.
The warranty for installed wooden floors is valid if the wooden floor maintenance and usage instructions have been followed:
The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear of the surface finish or defects caused by improper maintenance and installation.
The relative humidity in the room should be between 40-60%.
Use humidifiers to increase humidity.
The room temperature should be between 18-24°C.
In a room with underfloor heating, the surface temperature of the wooden parquet must not exceed 27°C.
Failure to follow these instructions will void the warranty.
