Parquet installation: what to know before you start

A well-chosen parquet also needs the right installation. Here is what is worth knowing before the material arrives at your home.

Floating or glued installation

Plank parquet is either installed floating on an underlay or glued down.

Floating installation is faster, and click parquet needs no glue.
Glued installation is more stable, and the parquet does not sound hollow underfoot.

Strip parquet, mosaic parquet and end grain block parquet are solid wood and are glued to the subfloor. After installation they are sanded and finished.

Wood moisture

A wooden floor must be dry when it is installed. The moisture content of floorboards must be 8 ±1%. Põrandakeskus recommends installing delivered floorboards within one week. After installation, keep an eye on the room temperature and humidity: the same standards apply to every wooden floor, plank parquet included. The recommended relative humidity is 40-60%.

Subfloor

Glue-down vinyl flooring needs a level subfloor.
The rigid core of SPC vinyl flooring compensates for small unevenness in the subfloor.
ISOCORE vinyl flooring can be installed directly over most existing hard floors.
The general flatness requirement for a wooden parquet subfloor is 3 mm over 3 metres.

Underfloor heating

Most wood species suit underfloor heating, except beech, maple and bamboo. When installing over underfloor heating, follow the manufacturer's instructions. 2-layer parquet is stable and works well over underfloor heating. Underlay

Parquet installed floating needs an underlay. Click LVT already has an integrated underlay, so no separate underlay is needed. You will find underlays and adhesives under installation and maintenance tools.
